About me

Hello, I'm Alex
The Here & Now Guy
I help people and teams come alive in the here and now.
For me, creative group work isn’t just fun — it’s one of the most powerful ways to make our work more human, collaborative, and alive.
My career has taken me through a variety of leadership roles, consulting with global organisations on strategy, innovation and story, years as a creativity trainer and facilitator, public speaking, and teaching and performing improvisation across Europe.
Along the way I’ve learned what helps people feel safe, engaged and open to one another — willing to step into change, and beyond that, to see what life is like at their creative edge.
I work best alongside creative leaders and curious teams who want to bring more play, meaning and humanity into their work.
In practice, that can look like:
-
facilitating strategy off sites, stakeholder workshops and larger events
-
training teams, groups and leaders with experiential learning, often using Improv at Work
-
speaking at events with an interactive, entertaining style
Clients I’ve supported include AstraZeneca, Shell, Channel 4, Adnams, Imperial College, Theatre Royal Norwich and many small businesses, charities and public bodies.
I live in Woodbridge, Suffolk, where I run an improvisation community exploring presence, spontaneity and connection. I also co-founded Cupboard Love, a plastic-free refill shop with my wonderful (and long-suffering) wife, Mel.
The Here & Now Guy
This tongue-in-cheek moniker points to the heart of my work: a trust in the spontaneous intelligence of life, and the belief that when we come into the present moment and listen, it will guide us.
I’ve hosted story circles and unhurried conversations, taught over 500 improv classes, designed creative workshops and leadership trainings, staged improv comedy and theatre shows, and co-created playful mindfulness events with The Way of Play. For me, all these different things point to the same truth: the here & now is alive, intelligent, and generous.
My work is about cultivating awareness of what’s happening and what’s possible in the present moment — and exploring how play, presence and story can shift the way we collaborate, lead and live.
At heart, I’m a bit of a mystic. I’ve explored meditation, qi gong, improvised theatre, dance, cold water swimming, gardening (a lot of gardening!), and sometimes simply the art of doing nothing. Through all of it, my passion remains the same: the wonder and importance of this moment — here & now — just as it is.
If you’re curious about working together, or simply want to chat about an idea, I’d love to hear from you.
