Real Life Learning

Learning that holds up when things get real.

Anyone can collaborate on a whiteboard, or share ideas in a slide deck. But when deadlines get squeezed, people clash, or the path forward isn’t clear—that’s when it really matters.

Real Life Learning helps teams build the awareness, adaptability, and trust they need to navigate real-world complexity together.

It’s light on theory and it’s not role play. It’s live, human learning – done together.

If you’d like to talk about learning for teams and leaders, drop me a line.

Real collaboration

In a world full of ‘team building’ and tick-box workshops, real collaboration goes deeper to help people work together with more honesty, adaptability, and flow.

It’s immersive and works with what actually shows up in the room: uncertainty, emotion, friction, creativity, humour, and insight.

Using live, experiential methods we’ll surface what’s really happening in your team dynamics, and then shift it – not just talk about it.

In these workshops and programmes I help teams benefit from:

Psychological  without soft pedalling

Clearer, braver communication

Trust that holds even in uncertainty

Creative thinking under pressure

Shared ownership beyond ego traps

Resilience through humour & play

"A rare mix of insight, creativity and humour."

“Alex was a delight to work with and provided a rare mix of insight, creativity and humour.”

“The result was a stronger sense of team identity, purpose and values and the sessions were challenging and fun in equal measure which helped us shift up a gear.”

Julian Munson
Head of Enterprise Zones & Innovation, New Anglia

The Power of Improv

Improv is one of the most powerful tools that I use.

It brings learning to life in a way that nothing else quite touches. Why? Because it helps people feel what we’re talking about.

Improv builds connection, invites play, and opens the door to learning that’s real, experiential and often surprising.

And when people are playing — paying close attention to each other, taking risks, and letting go of getting it “right” — then things shift. People listen differently. Show up differently. The learning lands in a much deeper way.

It’s not about being funny. It’s not about performance. it’s not about being clever. It’s about presence, trust, and co-creating in real time. And that’s where change happens.

I run an improv school called Here & Now People in Suffolk, UK and you’ll find details of corporate training with improv at hereandnowpeople.com

Team building experiences

1

60 minutes

In an hour I can run a session to engage, inspire and bring people together at a lunch & learn, or after work to play and unwind. Either way we’ll have a fun and laughter-filled session, and your group will get to connect in memorable ways. This session can be delivered as a mini-workshop or an interactive talk.

2

90 minutes

In an hour and half we can get people connecting and collaborating in ways that build deeper trust and creative confidence. We’ll explore the power of collaborative thinking, leading in uncertainty and authentic connection in everyday working life. This is an ideal session as part of an away day, annual gathering or conference.

3

Half day

With more time we can really open up the skills for communication and creative collaboration. Depending on your group we can also go deeper into thinking styles, trust and team dynamics. We’ll also take time to apply the learning to your everyday world. Half a day is ideal for a team away day or standalone session for a team that wants to reset or find a higher gear.

4

Full day

A full day lets us dive deeper into leadership, communication and collaboration skills and figure out how to take your teamwork to the next level. We’ll have plenty of fun and laugh together, and as seasoned facilitator (salt, pepper, hint of chilli) I’ll also hold space for the meaningful conversations you need to have. A full day is suitable for away days, retreats, ongoing development programmes, CPD and wider change initiatives.

"Improvisation is one of the two or three cardinal skills for people to learn in future."

John Kao, HBR

I really didn't think this would work.
Playful, powerful and hopeful.

Learning by doing. No boring waffle.

Discover the potential in yourself and others.

Anti-conventional
training

These sessions don’t look or sound like regular training.

We’ll push back the chairs and tables and ditch the presentations so you can learn in a happy state of flow.

As well as being immersive and experiential, we’ll make space for an open conversation that helps everyone to learn and grow.

What could we do together?

I’ve tailor training to your team or group, and read the room so it hits the mark. Here are some areas of teamwork and leadership we could explore together.

Creative collaboration

Tools and practices for live co-creations using the improv mindset.

Psychological safety

Creating the conditions for openness and trust in healthy teams.

Listening as an ally

Extending the range and impact of your performance by listening.

Status & power

Adapting nonverbal communication to equalise power.

Navigating uncertainty

Being brave enough to say “I don’t know” and working from there.

Facilitation skills

Learn to facilitate as practice, a process and a performance.
