Community Theatre

Improv has opened lots of doors for me, and I’ve played and learned alongside some amazing people at festivals in the UK and Europe.

Community theatre is the big thing for me and ten years ago I started an improv school in my home town of Woodbridge in Suffolk, called Here & Now People. It’s still going strong with regular classes, workshops and shows.

I also use the language of improvisational theatre in leadership development to help people co-create, lead and collaborate in uncertainty.

"Improvisation is one of the two or three cardinal skills for people to learn in future."

Creative community

For a while now I’ve been building a creative community in my home town – teaching over 300 improv sessions and creating more than thirty shows.

I love seeing people improvise – when it’s going well they become so connected and alive. There’s a joy in it’s that’s immediate, imaginative and whole-hearted.

My background is not in acting – so I’m proud of making a space where people can support each other, learn, grow, fail and express themselves.

The next season of Here & Now People is going to be focused on Playback Theatre – an original form of improvised theatre based on people’s real stories. Check out the what’s on page for classes, workshops and shows.

Playback Theatre

Playback is a form of improvised theatre where the audience share real moments from their lives, and the players brings those stories to life on stage.

It’s a ritual space where people can feel deeply seen, heard and recognised – and it carries the seed of healing and togetherness through the stories we tell.

This year I’ve been learning from practitioners in Playback and I’m forming an ensemble this autumn to go further into this craft. If that resonates – I’d love to hear from you.
