Community Theatre
Ten years ago I took my first improv class and immediately knew that I had found my people, my thing.
Improv has opened lots of doors for me, and I’ve been able to play with some amazing people, and perform at festivals in the UK and Europe.
Eight years ago I started building an improv community in Woodbridge in Suffolk, called Here & Now People.
I also use the language and tools of improvisational theatre in leadership development to help people handle the unexpected, and lead in uncertainty.
"Improvisation is one of the two or three cardinal skills for people to learn in future."
Building community
Over the last eight years I’ve been building a little community in my home town – teaching over 300 improv sessions and creating more than thirty shows.
I love seeing people improvise – it’s always so uncertain and alive. And I’m proud of making a space where people can take risks, support each other, learn, grow, fail, make friends and make art – and discover how resilient they really are.
Over the last couple of years, though, I’ve felt a pull towards something different. Not away from improvisation, but deeper into it.
So, for the summer for 2026 I’ve pressed pause on classes and shows while I gather a group of people to form a Playback Theatre ensemble.
Playback Theatre
Playback is a form of improvised theatre where the audience share real moments from their lives, and the players brings those stories to life on stage.
It’s a ritual space where people can feel deeply seen, heard and recognised – and it carries the seed of healing and togetherness through the stories we tell.
This year I’ve been learning from practitioners in Playback and I’m bring people together to form an ensemble this autumn (2026) and go further into this craft. If that resonates – I’d love to hear from you.
