Experiential learning
I create ‘practice spaces’ where people can try new things, take a few risks and learn together.
I’ve worked with AstraZeneca, NHS, Adnams, Mind, University of Suffolk, Britten Pears Arts and Ideas Centre delivering team building, leadership development and creative facilitation training.
At the heart of my approach is the practice of improvisation. We improvise everyday and yet we rarely take the time to develop this ability, doing so offers rich learning with a light touch and a healthy amount of laughter.
I run an improv community in my home town and perform in regular shows, I work as a creative facilitator and keynote speaker.

The power of improv
Improvisers have developed exercises and drills that help them to become brilliant listeners, brave leaders and flexible collaborators.
Improv-based training adapts those games to help people enhance their social, emotional, teamwork and leadership abilities. That’s the power of improv: it’s a pure form of learning that brings out the best in people.
Here’s what happens in an improv-based workshop:
We’ll use simple, playful games that help you build trust and learn by doing.
You’ll collaborate creatively with others and learn in a happy state of flow.
You’ll have a friendly guide to help you apply the learning to everyday work (and life).
"A rare mix of insight, creativity and humour."
“Alex was a delight to work with and provided a rare mix of insight, creativity and humour.”
“The result was a stronger sense of team identity, purpose and core values and the sessions were challenging and fun in equal measure which helped us shift up a gear.”

Delivery options
1
60 minutes
Whether it’s a lunch & learn session or to engage and inspire, or a get together after work to play and unwind, your group will connect and collaborate in a fun, creative session. It might be laughter-filled but the learning runs deep and the ripples will last a long time.
2
90 minutes
This session lets everyone connect and collaborate in a creative way and gives more time to reflect on how the workshop activities apply to everyday life. This is an ideal one-off session for a busy team or board, or as part of conference or annual gathering.
3
Half day
We’ll take a deeper dive into a theme like personal flexibility, collaborative thinking, or playful leadership, and reflect on how the workshop activities apply in the real world. This is an ideal workshop for a CPD / professional development day, or as part of a wider learning programme.
4
Full day
This workshop offers plenty of time for learning by doing. Participants will connect and collaborate in more advanced ways, and reflect on how the learning applies to team work, leadership and culture change. This is an ideal workshop for an away day, retreat or change initiative.
"Improvisation is one of the cardinal skills for the future."

Anti-conventional
training
Sessions with me don’t look or sound like regular training.
I take pride in creating immersive experiences that let people learn by doing in a happy state of flow.
We talk about about the games and activities as we go along, and I make sure there’s plenty of time to apply the learning.
